Mottled Owl- Death from Above

The Mottled Owl is a common owl throughout most of Costa Rica. It prefers the middle levels of forest and forest edges. It feeds at night on rodents and rabbits. It's disk shaped face helps direct sound to it's ears that are on the sides of it's head. They use both sound and sight to locate their prey at which time they swoop down silently.
