University of Florida art and engineering students joined artist Xavier Cortada in a dedication ceremony for Moving Water: PCe (Panama Canal Equivalents), a mural commemorating the Panama Canal centennial. Exploring the theme of nature and man-made interventions, Cortada researched the history of the Canal using the Panama Canal Museum Collection at the George A. Smathers Libraries. The procession across campus was accompanied by music composed and performed by student Mitchell Stecker on the UF carillon. The mural is the culmination of a project Cortada conducted with art and engineering students to bring awareness of our impact on the environment by examining how much Florida has been transformed in the last 100 years. After the procession, students placed vessels filled with water samples from local bodies of water on shelves installed under the mural. Moving Water is installed on the Computer Science and Engineering Building. For more information about the project, see .
