Hearing The Martian

The Martian is the fourth supercut in my "Best Sound Editing Oscar Nominees 2016" series, focusing on sounds used in a time of space exploration and research. When we listen to doors opening, buttons pushing, and spaceships lifting off we are hearing a possible future full of technological innovations. When we listen to the wind howling or dying down or air escaping an astronaut's helmet we are reminded of how natural, real, and dangerous Mars is as a desolate planet. These are the sounds you would hear is you were 140 million miles away from home.
