This is a very short documentary of the creation of sapphire and diamond drop earrings. Excellent artistic craftsmanship by Mike Ligtvoet.
Some background information. Mike creates his jewels as unique designs and is able to accommodate various customer design requests or material choices. He usually starts with a certain choice of stone (in this case blue sapphire and diamond) that is hand picked at his suppliers in Antwerp, Belgium. The base shape is created by 3D wax printing of a computer generated model, which is then cast in 18k gold. From then on, all steps are done by manual labor in very high precision. Finished off by polishing and electroplating with rhodium. All manual steps are covered in this short film.
Be amazed by the extraordinary attention to detail in these earrings containing 394 sapphires.
